WHAT YOU NEED TO PLAY Mortisphere is designed to be played with very little equipment. The universe has already provided enough complications. To play Mortisphere, each player needs: - A copy of the Mortisphere rulebook - A set of polyhedral dice - A pencil - A crew sheet That is all. No miniatures are required. No terrain needs to be built. No measuring tools are needed. The creatures of Mortisphere are represented by dice because a die is more than a marker. It represents the remaining strength and existence of the being it represents. A single die may represent: - A desperate survivor carrying ancient weapons - A machine still following commands from a civilization that no longer exists - A Mycelian organism controlling a forgotten body - A creature evolved to survive the final age of the universe - A relic of something far greater that has long since fallen The physical dice used in the game will become part of your crew's history. A new die is only a possibility. A surviving die is a story. Dice Required Mortisphere uses standard polyhedral dice: - d4 - d6 - d8 - d10 - d12 - d20 A creature's die determines its value and represents its potential within the crew. A d4 creature is worth 4 points. A d6 creature is worth 6 points. A d20 creature is worth 20 points. Larger dice represent greater beings, but size alone does not determine importance. A small creature that survives impossible battles may become more valuable than a powerful creature that dies in its first encounter. The Crew Sheet Each player keeps a record of their crew throughout the campaign. The crew sheet tracks: - Crew members - Their dice - Equipment - Improvements - Injuries - Discoveries - Other campaign effects The crew sheet is the history of everything your crew has survived. Mortisphere is not about creating a perfect force. It is about creating a force that has a story. The Rulebook The Mortisphere rulebook is not only a reference document. It is the place where the campaign unfolds. Scenarios are played directly from the book. Events, discoveries and decisions may lead players to different sections, changing what happens next. The outcome of one battle may affect the next. A victory may create new opportunities. A defeat may leave permanent consequences. A choice made by your crew may open paths that another crew never discovers. The book is not merely where the rules are stored. It is where the final age is recorded. A Note About the End of Everything Mortisphere is a universe of extremes. Ancient weapons, impossible machines, forgotten technologies and beings of unimaginable power may still exist among the ruins. Nobody truly understands everything that remains. The survivors of Mortisphere do not have the luxury of understanding the universe. They only have the opportunity to use what is left. Usually, they use it against each other.
