SCENARIOS
A scenario is a single conflict within the greater campaign of Mortisphere.
It is not simply a battle between two crews.
Every scenario represents a moment where different ambitions, necessities and disasters collide.
A crew may be searching for a forgotten relic. It may be hired to eliminate a threat. It may be attempting to escape a collapsing location. It may simply be trying to acquire enough resources to continue existing.
The reason for the conflict changes.
The danger does not.

THE STRUCTURE OF A SCENARIO
Each scenario provides everything needed to play that part of the campaign.
A scenario contains:
- The situation. - The location. - The Areas involved. - The objectives. - The opposing forces. - Special rules. - Events. - Rewards and consequences.
Some scenarios are straightforward.
Others may change depending on what happens during play.
The actions of a crew determine what comes next.
—
SCENARIO SETUP
Before beginning a scenario, players should read the scenario introduction and prepare the required information.
This includes:
- Which crews are involved. - Where each crew begins. - Which Areas are available. - Any special rules in effect. - Any unique conditions affecting the battle.
The scenario defines the situation.
The players decide how it unfolds.
—
OBJECTIVES
Every scenario has objectives.
Objectives are the reason a conflict exists.
A crew may need to:
- Secure an important location. - Recover valuable material. - Destroy an enemy. - Protect something important. - Reach an area before time runs out. - Complete a task under dangerous conditions.
Destroying the opposing crew is only one possible outcome.
Sometimes the smartest choice is not to fight.
Sometimes fighting is the only option left.
—
EVENTS
Mortisphere does not remain still.
During a scenario, events may occur that change the situation.
A location may collapse.
A forgotten machine may awaken.
A new threat may appear.
A discovery may alter the purpose of the battle entirely.
Events ensure that scenarios remain uncertain.
The plan a crew begins with may not survive the first few moments of the conflict.
—
OUTCOMES
Every scenario has consequences.
A victory may provide:
- Equipment. - Resources. - New opportunities. - Information. - Advancement.
A defeat may result in:
- Lost crew members. - Damaged equipment. - Reduced resources. - New complications.
Failure does not always end a campaign.
In Mortisphere, failure is often where the most interesting stories begin.
—
CAMPAIGN CONNECTION
Scenarios are connected.
The result of one battle affects those that follow.
A crew that succeeds may gain access to opportunities that another crew never sees.
A crew that fails may discover a different path forward.
The campaign is not a fixed story that happens to the players.
It is a record of what their crew managed to accomplish before the end finally arrives.
—
PLAYING FROM THE BOOK
Mortisphere is designed to be played directly from the physical rulebook.
The scenarios contain information that is revealed as the campaign progresses.
A decision made during one scenario may direct players to another section of the book.
A discovery may reveal new information.
A failure may change what happens next.
Do not read ahead unless instructed.
The unknown is part of the experience.
The universe has already ended.
You do not need to know exactly how it finishes.
